The Ignacio School District Board and the Southern Ute Indian Tribal Council would like to invite you, as a parent of an American Indian student in our schools, to attend the Ignacio School District Indian Policies and Procedures (IPP) meeting on Monday, October 21, 2024, at 5:30 P.M.. The meeting will be held in person at the Ignacio High School Commons and Auditorium, with a light meal served prior to the meeting.
A Message to the Community (from the Superintendent)
We are committed to making this year one of the best yet. We are in year four of our District’s Strategic Plan, which was developed in collaboration with parents, staff, and community stakeholders. The plan has smart goals in each of four focus areas, which include Academic Achievement, Climate and Culture, Staff Retention and Development, and Facilities. Our mission remains steadfast: “Together, We will Engage, Empower, and Prepare all of our Learners for the Future.”
School Start Dates and Attendance
- School is starting early this year.
- August 11th will be a transition day for students who are new to each building, with Kindergarten, 6th grade, 9th grade, and all brand-new students required to attend school at their buildings.
- School will start for all grades on August 12th. Both days have a normal start and release time.
- A district goal is to decrease the chronic absenteeism rate.
- Chronic absenteeism is defined as a student who has missed 15 days or more during the school year, whether excused or unexcused.
- Children with an attendance rate of 93% or higher consistently show strong academic growth and are better prepared for the next grade level.
Leadership and Academics
- All district principals and directors are returning this year, providing consistent and effective leadership.
- Each school will focus on improving academic growth through tiered support for students by challenging and supporting them.
- The continued focus is to enhance student engagement through research-based strategies.
- Regularly scheduled Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) will use data to refine skill-specific instruction.
- The district will concentrate on improving student academics by implementing safety nets for struggling and/or advanced learners.
- Professional development this year will focus on formative and summative assessments to gauge student growth and understanding.
Sincerely,
Christopher W. deKay Superintendent
