Multi Cultural Committee
Welcome to the Multicultural Committee Webpage
Mission Statement: United in Culture, One Community Standing Together
Vision Statement: The Multicultural Committee will build and celebrate partnerships between diverse entities of the Ignacio Community.
1. To achieve our mission, we have adopted the following plan:
- The Committee will encourage mutual collaboration between our schools and our multi-ethnic community which shows support for every entity.
- The Committee will supervise and encourage implementation of Character Counts by all community entities.
- Work to implement multi-ethnic cultural activities both inside and outside of school time and encourage students, staff, and community members to participate.
- Create and update a contact list of community contacts to enhance education either through visitors coming to school for class activities or school wide presentations. The list would also be used to set up class or school educational trips to local organizations.
2. The Committee will supervise the following Character Counts initiatives to encourage participation and implementation in our multi-ethnic community:
- Create awards and recognition for those who display acts of great character.
- Continue to grow our participating business list for Bobcat Coins.
- Conduct a monthly review and sharing of Character Counts activities and events.
- Commit to the success of Character Counts as a committee and as a community by: Collaborating and planning community wide Character Counts events. Encouraging community wide participation through word of mouth, advertising, and participation in our community reading program. Plan fundraising events and opportunities for donations to support activities, events, and rewards.
The Multi-Cultural Committee meets every month on the fourth Monday at 11:50 a.m. in the District Administration Office. Lunch is provided.

Culture
What is culture: Culture is an umbrella term which encompasses the social behavior and norms found in human societies, as well as the knowledge, beliefs, arts, laws, customs, capabilities, and habits of the individuals in these groups.
CHARACTER COUNTS PERSON OF THE MONTH
Each month the Multi Cultural Committee honors someone exhibiting the Character Counts Pillars of Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring and Citizenship.
October - Jeremy McMinn
Jeremy McMinn is so kind and reliable, is always willing to help those of us who are technology newbies. Jeremy is simply the best! Jeremy is not only a wonderful co-worker who is kind, considerate, and respectful, he is always willing to help. He shows up and is willing to go the extra mile to help everyone work through problems or issues, which represents the citizenship pillar. He also does exactly what he says he is going to do, showing Trustworthiness. Jeremy is a wonderful Tech director, colleague and person.
September - Ron Schermacher
The Ignacio community has not just a good, but a great citizen in Ron Schermacher. He cares deeply about our youth and makes a concerted effort to provide positive experiences for them through his work at the Ignacio Community Library. He offers weekly idea lab classes in the Maker Lab that engage youth, and he is always willing to schedule time to show anyone how to create with the Glowforge laser, 3D printer, and other resources there. He also enthusiastically plans many community events and contests inclusive of youth, such as Observe the Moon Night and Earth Day, among others. In addition, Ron is passionate about literacy and brainstorms ideas about how to connect the library and our schools to support students to be successful readers. His caring nature also extends to incarcerated parents in our community through his work with the Fatheread program by bringing these parents books, coaching them to read the book aloud for a recording, and sending a copy of the book and recording to their kids at home.
August - Sierra Velasquez
As the Food Service Department Production Coordinator, Sierra consistently demonstrates exceptional dedication, initiative, and an outstanding work ethic. She is highly organized, dependable, and never hesitates to step in wherever she is needed. Yesterday, I watched Sierra tackle one of the most physically demanding jobs. She power-washed our entire dock area, the trash receptacle area, all of the kitchen carts, and the oven inserts. It was hard, dirty work—work that many people would gladly leave for someone else—but Sierra approached it with determination and without complaint. It was just another example of her willingness to go above and beyond what is expected. Sierra is not afraid of hard work, and she leads by example every day. Her commitment to maintaining a clean, safe, and efficient operation reflects the pride she takes in her work and the respect she has for her team. We are incredibly fortunate to have Sierra on our team. Her dedication, positive attitude, and outstanding character make a difference every day. She is truly deserving of this recognition
